'Bowring' Footpedal for Shruti box - 90cm
The Bowring foot pedal offers the perfect solution for hands-free playing of our Shruti Boxes, opening up new musical possibilities for string, wind, handpan and percussion instrument players. It is easy, quiet and satisfying to play, with smooth control of loudness and sustain.
Invented in 2012 by engineer and musical instrument maker Richard Bowring, and developed with input from Stefan Cartwright, this precision accessory has proved to be a practical and reliable match for Shruti Boxes fitted with a torsion spring-loaded rod to automate bellows opening.
The Bowring foot pedal has been designed for shrutiboxes by Monoj Kumar Sardar. It can be used for shrutiboxes with likewise construction from other manufacturers as well (e.g. our small Paloma shrutibox). However, its usability for our large Paloma shrutibox is limited, because it does not allow full opening of the bellows and has a delay in reset.
The rubber sole fixed to the stainless steel base prevents the pedal from moving during play. It is easy-to-clean and provides an acoustic insulation barrier between pedal and floor.
And ... I've tried it while sitting on the floor. It works!!
