Tube Chimes large - overtone sub contra G - 15 notes
These tubular chimes are tuned according to the overtone series, also called harmonic series. Here the fundamental is G3 (sol), or 196 Hz. When playing these chimes, the harmonics and sub-harmonics start to 'dance' together in a growling sound. Check out the video or the sound sample on this page.
Particularity of these copper tube chimes is their very long sustain or resonance. According to the size it lasts between 1 and 2 minutes. Copper tubes are suspended in elastic cords on a ash wood frame. They are played with mallets or even with fingers.
